The above was followed - after about 20 minutes - by 4 Poofs & a Piano (As seen on TV) and they were very different but great fun and a good time was had.

All this was followed by a Chinese buffet in the restaurant that is now where The cafe was that the first scribblings of a certain J.K.Rowling formulated into the story (and it is a just a story) of a little boy with a scar on his forehead.

Managed to catch up on Top Gear's final programme in the series last night - Thank you iPlayer - and what an unsual ending to the series but perhaps JC has got it slightly wrong. It may be that is the end of the American gas guzzling cars - i.e badly made, and the mechanics designed around 1950/60. Hopefully cars as exceptionally engineered as the new Ferrari and the Aston Martin Vantage will continue to be created.

Ah...now the cricket....shame the rain affected the match...but the debate is now focusing on the behaviour of the Barmy Army style of support - is it a good thing or bad thing?....listening on the radio you tend not to hear anything other than the monotonous drone of a bunch of drunks repeatedly shouting Barmy Army rather than the clever whitty stuff which they do as well....apparently

Skype....I think it's really good for non-business communication - apparently there are security issues for anything more ?!

Twitter - just started looking at that - great for keeping up to date on the cricket.....when it's not raining that is!

The bride was lovely and the groom was kilted and it was a great day, good food, good wine and good company and the rain stayed away. The only down side was the minister/priest who addressed his entire service to the congregation, including the wedding homily. The only time he lookad at the couple was for the wedding vows - but the rest of the day was great and more than compensated for this.

Saturday was a doing odds and ends kinda day and then on Sunday morning I skype'd my uncle and aunt in Australia so that my mother, who is 85, could see and talk to them - she has not seen them, in the flesh as it were, for 26 years. She was delighted to see and talk to them before she returns home tonight.

And Top Gear was back on form last night.

And now work!

 Comments

Sometimes.....

Watched the Top Gear on Sunday and great entertainment ..... laughed out loud when James May could not stop his Capri in time and destroyed his piano - the replacement he bought for the last one he crushed.

BUT....Has Top Gear lost a something this series - maybe it is all the other stuff the presenters are doing but they seem less focused

Bowling in the rain last night - still.... came out victorious in the end ...just!

Mrs I is getting tango'd (or is it Irn bru'd) this afternoon in readiness for Friday.....I think it is the diet option - opted for a pale one so as not to appear overdone.

I heard yesterday that a friend of ours is terminally ill....so a bit of a downer.... and they have brought forward their daughters wedding so he can be there.....sometimes you don't realise how lucky you are....

Fired up the chimnea for the first time....currently using diy store reformed woodchip logs...they don't last very well...I think I will try a bit of beech or oak and see how that lasts...

Looking forward to a week in Kilchoan (Ardnamurchan) at the end of the month.....should be nice and relaxing....

My weather sensor is attached to the northish facing side of the garden shed about 20ft from the house...under the lea of the shed roof - it has been outside for the last couple of years without any problems.

Kitchen update...may now just relocate existing kitchen as it was only installed about 18 months before we moved in in August and there is not a lot wrong with it apart from being in the wrong place that is and having a black worktop that seems to absorb light.....

Thermo at home said -1.5c at 08:30 ...it was -5.7c at midnight. It has been so dry that the roads have no ice on them so they are not to bad but still pays to be careful.

Looks like new kitchen fever has descended as we spent last night trying to plan out what goes where in the new room.....we are moving the Kitchen into another room so it could be fun.....I just love tiling!

All we need to do now is save up for the wood burning stove and chimney....we are all electric - only other option is a Calor Gas fire but I think a wood burner would be nicer.......

Onwards and upwards

I heard yesterday that my Aunty Pam died - she was amazing woman....about 5', thin but a real farmers wife. She brought up a family and once they left she looked after her husband, who is still alive, as he has rheumatism and can hardly move. A woman whose stature exceeded her diminutive size in bucketfuls. She will be greatly missed by her family and the community in which she lived. She will be a handy person to have in heaven.

I also had to go to my friends fathers funeral in Aberdeen recently.

This has not been a good start to the year.

My late brother would not have enjoyed Saturday or Sunday as they were his two great sporting passions but he would have agreed that both the Rugby team and Lewis Hamilton achieved so much to get themselves into the position where they could have won.....

The football - more my thing - was a disappointment but no great surprise - for both England and Scotland - at least Scotland can put themselves into Euro 2008......Me - well come on you 'ammers.

Saw a Badger on next doors back garden one evening last week and Buzzards circling overhead the other afternoon and we don't live in the country really.....

25 Jars of Chutney made and still possibly another batch of 8 jars to be made tonight then that should be it for this year.

The house was grand once it had been aired and a few fires burned in the log burner to dry it out a bit - it was built into a slope and I suspect when it was built there was no such thing as damp-course. There was a lake for fishing - son caught rainbow trout that was big enough to have for breakfast - and the garden grounds were excellent - discovered the owners went to my old school in Sussex - a few years after me - and that one of my former class mates was due there the week after...... Weather was ok - not a lot of sun but not a lot of rain except a couple of the days. Went to several "Musee de Guerre", cemetaries, the odd castle, cathedral and chateau.

Our front door was the one just behind the red car

View from the other side of the footbridge
William the Conquerers Wee HooseBayeaux Cathedral
You wouldn't see this in the UK - a circus with real animals......

It was a tough day, especially for my mother, my sister-in-law, and my nephews however the day was got through somehow. Tears were shed, smiles were seen, laughter was heard and memories recalled - just how it should be.

After much discussion, somewhere no doubt, my brother passed away because of a heart attack brought on by a clot stopping the blood flow to the heart. Typing this does not really help but each thing is part of the jigsaw of life - will I find the last piece - probably when it is my turn.

The funeral has been set for Wednesday and then I will stay on with my mother for a few days.

Things will be a little strange for a while.

 Comments

Water Water Everywhere............

Son was having bath - water running fine - son turned off tap water stopped coming out. After about 5 mins could not understand why but water still seemed to be running - went downstairs and found out why - water coming through ceiling - oh flippin' heck ......turned off water then realised electrical supply and switches were in indirect line of waterfall......left them well alone. Got son out of bath and emptied. As the boxing in of the pipes had been nicely tiled about two weeks ago (air blue in Linlithgow @ 10:30 ish) I had to rip tiles off and unscrew ply to find that plastic pipe had blown off connection even though a supporting sleeve had been inserted......fortunately the plumber had seen sense enough to put an in-line tap before the plastic .... ...Time to do the phoning thing later to insurance and plumber, plasterer, joiner malarky as the water ran down through kitchen cupboards.......

Oh yes and the Church plant sale raised £303

Well things are moving along - we just had to get our roof re-fettled and I noticed that the insulation that was in the roof was about 5mm thick - I kid you not - well it is 30 years old....so today we went to B&Q and bought 20 rolls of 200mm insulation on BOGOF - guess what I shall be doing this weekend!

The plants are growing fast and I should have a fair batch for the ST Peter's Plant Sale a week today if I remember correctly...

Big Red Car has just had annual service, timing belt, Camshaft oil seal & MOT - nothing needed doing but ouch on the £££ front. but mileage has dropped off since starting to work from home.

more updates later.....

 Comments

Primates in Africa

In the Times I read the headline along the lines of Primates discuss merging Anglican and Catholic churches.

Blimey I thought evolution was moving apace but Gorilla's and Chimpanzees talking about returning religion back to before Henry VIII's time was pretty good going and then....

I realised it was some of the cardinals exploring ways of uniting part of the Anglican church under the pope. The right wing Anglican group being those who do not want Women priests, do not except gay people in general - but especially priests etc.etc. although they do allow their priests to marry, use contraception etc. and they want to work out how they can practice religion under the leadership of the Catholic church whose priests should not marry, should all be men, there should be no gay people in the church - especially priests (and we all know how well they have managed that situation), no form of contraception is to be used.
Although they do both have something in common - neither church has ever been involved in politics ...no honestly they haven't

Perhaps they should just hand that one over to the real primates and leave them to sort it out......

 Comments

Leaky Roofs & Wasp Nests

Discovered during last nights rain that our roof leaks - it's the first heavy rain we have had since the last bunch of winds etc. E noticed it dripping through a joint in the plaster board - Insurance time I think because the roof will need to be looked at and a sq. yard section of ceiling replaced.

Interestingly while I had my head in the loft I noticed a wasp nest the size of a beach ball - maybe one for the pest control just in case unless I am feeling brave - I am sure it was not there last year....

 Comments

Life Laundry weekend

A busy weekend clearing out some unnecessary stuff accumulated over the years and now the bunker (4'6'' high space under the extension) is all neat and tidy so it will be ready to store garden produce and conservs......I still have some of Septembers potatoes in there in perfect condition.

It is hard going through old photos and trying to remember the names and faces in them - family members it's not to bad but pictures taken of friends are a little more troublesome on the little grey cells.....
